Imagine a time, way back when, if you will, when award winning songwriter, vocalist, and keyboardist for Funky Gloworm, Tina Boyd, was just a little girl maybe 3 or 4 years old. She would amaze friends and relatives by singing her own songs and playing piano, guitar, violin and any other instrument she could get her hands on. And, to this day, she has not stopped writing the most beautiful songs.

 

As she developed into a beautiful and talented performer she drew influences from music of all cultures. Tina’s love of music knows no boundaries and spreads itself in a wide blanket across all genres and global borders to give birth to the hard, exotic music that is Funky Gloworm.

 

Tina is particularly fond of the more exotic Indian sitar music and Middle Eastern scales and high energy drum beats. All these ingredients blend together to form that luscious, grooving rock that’s edgy yet delicate; a sound that seduces the soul and leaves your musical senses longing deep inside for more!

 

Even if Tina only wrote songs, that would be magical enough to satisfy. But give her a record deal and the budget that goes with it and that’s a good thing! The sky’s the limit! As if the studio is not enough she is a beautiful, hypnotic, natural live performer as well. Most of the songs on this CD were recorded with minimal equipment in her bedroom. This works for Tina because her music comes from deep inside her and the rawness of the recordings keeps that connection intact! You can feel what I’m talking about when you listen to the whole CD.

 

Another very important ingredient to Funky Gloworm is the Lead Guitarist, Darin Murakami. He is influenced by all types of hard rock but favors the more melodic yet simple styles of Ace Frehley from Kiss, Kim Thayall of Sound Garden and Billy Corgan.

Always careful to play melodic riffs and gorgeous guitar parts that highlight Tina’s vocals, Darin’s work blends synergistically into Tina’s beautiful yet guttural vocal stylings and synthesizer motifs!

 

Underneath the melody and lyrics lay Darin Kuntupis’ moving jungle style drum beats. It’s hard to believe he’s human when he plays because he makes the most challenging drum fills sound natural and flowing yet he is extremely tasty and inventive. He becomes one with the drums and the beat. He has a natural gift and isn’t afraid to use it to set Tina’s song writing ablaze in a heated tryst of pumping beats and vocal ecstasy!

 

Chris Hoetger is the newest member of the band and is a solid bass player. With a grooving, hooky, bass sound to compliment the drums. With delicate rhythm and the solid powerful drumming of Darin Kuntupis. they create a sensual yet powerful foundation for Funky Gloworm.

 

Tina formed Funky Glowworm in 1998. And having so much talent it was inevitable that Funky Gloworm would produce only the most beautiful, one of a kind, music as well as extremely devoted and loyal fans. Even at small events she mesmerizes audiences and controls them passionately. Now that the band’s fan base is growing each performance is more fiery and passionate than the one before.

 

            Funky Gloworm is more than just an awesome rock band -- they are an experience whose time has come.
